Program notes
The splendor of nature and the beauty of contemporary dance are the two elements at the heart of the ballet The TREE by Carolyn Carlson. Onstage at the Théâtre National de la danse, nine dancers immerse themselves in the dreamlike and sensual vision of this legendary figure of the French Nouvelle Danse movement. Reflecting on humanity and nature, The TREE interrogates the tumultuous relationship between humans and the earth with the dancers embodying several different elements like water, fire, and trees. Profound, poetic, and conceptual, this work is a gem of contemporary dance that is not to miss.
