Program notes

At the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival 2025, Leonardo García-Alarcón and Cappella Mediterranea present a concert dedicated to the golden age of seventeenth-century Italian opera, exploring the dramatic richness and expressive freedom of this repertoire. The program features several arias from operas by Francesco Cavalli, selections from Claudio Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, and excerpts from Alessandro’s Stradella’s Il Trespolo tutore

Countertenor Carlo Vistoli joins forces with the ensemble, lending his voice to these intriguing masterpieces and reviving the psychological subtlety and virtuosity of early Baroque opera. Under García Alarcón’s inspired direction, this performance offers a voyage into a golden age where music embraces every nuance of theater and emotion…
