Program notes
At Paris's gorgeous Fondation Singer-Polignac, the seventh edition of the Festival Singer-Polignac commences with a stunning concert by the four talented women of the Ensemble Théodora. This celebrated early music ensemble presents Tranquil Hearts, a program unveiling the profound influence of French artistry on the music of the seventeenth-century German courts. In the aftermath of the devastating Thirty Years’ War, German rulers looked to the dazzling court of Louis XIV as a model for cultural renewal and refinement. Composers like Johann Fischer embraced French styles, creating elegant dance suites inspired by the music of Jean-Baptiste Lully. Enjoy a musical voyage through French and German Baroque masterpieces, from Lully’s enchanting Armide to the radiant joy of Johann Krieger’s cantata Surgite cum gaudio.
