Program notes
In the beautiful snow-capped mountains of Switzerland, world-renowned classical artists and distinguished orchestras gather for the 26th edition of the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad! In this concert, conductor Baptiste Lopez and the Camerata Salzburg welcome acclaimed cellist Kian Soltani to the magnificent St. Mauritius Church Saanen for an uplifting program of Mozart and Boccherini. On his Stradivari cello, ‘London, ex-Boccherini’ — an instrument with historical links to Italian composer and cellist Luigi Boccherini himself — Soltani brings out the youthful, virtuosic brilliance of Boccherini’s Cello Concertos Nos. 6 and 7, as well as the vibrant Classical colors of the third movement of his Cello Sonata No.17 in C major. Soltani's superb display of cello mastery is complemented by a charming rendition of Mozart’s sparklingly Viennese Symphony No. 27 in G major.
