Program notes

A legendary symphony, a spellbinding overture, and a double concerto all find a place of honor in this breathtaking concert performed on period instruments by Laurence Equilbey's Insula orchestra and brand-new Insula camerata, a priceless training ground for young musicians to learn about historically informed performance practices! First, violist Miguel da Silva and clarinettist Pierre Génisson shine in a deeply moving rendition of Bruch’s Concerto for Clarinet and Viola, and the ensembles captivate in the same composer’s lyrical Die Loreley Overture — followed by Beethoven’s timeless Symphony No. 5, reimagined for a double orchestra, all under Equilbey's masterful baton.
