Program notes
Experience a sumptuous gala in honor of one of the most distinctive, unforgettable, and beloved voices of the twentieth century: Maria Callas. French actress Carole Bouquet brings the celebrated diva back to life in a selection of evocative texts, including the opening monologue from Terrence McNally's Tony-winning Master Class, as well as excerpts from La Divina's personal correspondence. Some of today's greatest opera voices, worthy heirs to the legacy of Callas's revolutionary art, interpret the arias that brought her worldwide renown.
The opulent decor of Paris's Palais Garnier provides a breathtaking backdrop for this special episode of the series Fauteuils d'orchestre; alongside the esteemed special guests, host Anne Sinclair paints a gripping portrait of a one-of-a-kind icon, revealing the many facets of her character and artistry, and celebrating a legacy that has only continued to grow in the years since Callas's passing.
