Program notes

At the magnificent Royal Chapel of the Palace of Versailles, Catalan maestro and Baroque and early music specialist Jordi Savall conducts his orchestra, Le Concert des Nations, in a vibrant exploration of works by pioneering 18th-century French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau. After opening with a jubilant suite from Rameau’s 1748 opera Naïs, the period instrument orchestra performs stately music from the famous ballet héroïque, Les Indes galantes. The concert finishes beautifully with the lyrical Zoroastre and Rameau’s posthumous final tragédie en musique, Les Boréades. Watch as Jordi Savall — with a career spanning more than 50 years — expertly conjures the joyful exuberance and poignant beauty of Baroque music.
