Program notes

Under the masterful baton of maestro Gianandrea Noseda, the Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra performs one of the most evocative of Romantic masterpieces. Composed in 1874, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is a piano suite paying homage to ten of Hartmann’s artistic canvases. The work evolved with Ravel’s brilliant orchestral transcription, commissioned by conductor Serge Koussevitzky in 1922 and brought to brilliant life at the Tsinandali Festival 2026.
