Program notes

A mainstay at the Verbier Festival for over thirty years, the incomparable Evgeny Kissin returns for one of his signature solo recitals at the festival's 2026 edition! One of the greatest pianists of the 20th and 21st centuries, Kissin lends his generational virtuosity and goosebump-inducing lyricism to another carefully chosen program: an early experimental sonata by Beethoven, soulful Mazurkas by Chopin (including what may be the final work he ever composed, the haunting Op. 68, No. 4 in F minor), Schumann's endlessly fascinating Kreisleriana, and — for a firework-filled finale — the towering Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12, one of the very finest Lisztian blends of dazzling virtuosity and heart-rending melody, of which Kissin's famous rendition is an indisputable all-timer.
