Woodwinds

Woodwind instruments fall within the "wind" family. The sister of brass, their sound is produced by the vibrations of a bevel or reed. Many woodwind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone) are therefore not made of wood! Their sound therefore varies greatly from instrument to instrument, providing a variety of colours and personalities in an orchestral score.
