In 1892, Dvořák accepted the role of director at the New York Conservatory of Music. The musical master thus crossed the Atlantic and settled for a few years in the United States, where he found inspiration for his Symphony No. 9 from the very moment of his arrival! The symphony’s sub-title “New World” suits it perfectly for multiple reasons. Firstly, in order to compose Symphony No. 9, Dvořák took motifs from European music but also elements of Native American music, crafting a bridge between the two continents. The feelings of freedom and discovery emanating from the first movement, tempered by the sweet nostalgia of the second, then the epic character of the final movement allow us to experience the emotional journey of a European emigrant, on his way to make his fortune in the New World…rediscover this masterpiece on medici.tv!
