Composed between 1802 and 1803, Beethoven's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 9 in A major, Op. 47 belongs to his second creative period and is contemporaneous with the "Eroica" Symphony. This sonata is widely regarded as one of the most challenging compositions in Beethoven's repertoire. Interestingly, the renowned violinist Rodolphe Kreutzer, the dedicatee of the piece and a master of Viennese artistic soirées, actually refused to play it, considering it "scandalously unintelligible" (a judgement shared by all the musicians in Paris at the time, according to Berlioz). The scandalous nature of Beethoven's score lay in the composer's deliberate intention to introduce dynamic conflict into a chamber music work by giving equal importance to both the violin and the piano. However, despite its initial detractors, the "Kreutzer" Sonata has become one of the most highly regarded and frequently performed pieces in all of classical music!

Beethoven's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 9, known as the "Kreutzer Sonata," has faced severe criticism over time, with some even labeling it as "artistic terrorism" (J. and B. Massin, 1967). However, in present times, Beethoven's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47, "Kreutzer Sonata," has earned a prominent position in the repertoire of the world's most prestigious concert halls. While composing this sonata, Beethoven drew inspiration from a mysterious source, as portrayed in the biographical film Immortal Beloved, directed by Bernard Rose, which delves deep into Beethoven's life. In the movie, Beethoven (portrayed by Gary Oldman) discloses to the composer Anton Schindler (Jeroen Krabbé) the inspiration behind the first movement of the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47, "Kreutzer Sonata." According to Schindler's biography, the composer said, "Let's see, what was I thinking when I wrote it [Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 9]? ... A man attempts to reach his lover. His carriage collapses in the rain, the wheel stuck in the mud. In simple terms, she will have to wait for a long time. Sonata No. 9 embodies the sound of his restlessness!"
