Program notes

A five-star cast awaits you on the stage of this year’s Verbier Festival, at the superb Verbier Church. Joshua Bell, the renowned poet of violin, and mesmerizing pianist (and superb conductor!) Lahav Shani open the festivities with Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 1, an ambivalent masterwork that subtly oscillates between anguish and still calmness. Virtuosos Michael Barenboim on violin, Lawrence Power on viola, and Sheku Kanneh-Mason on cello then join them for a sublime interpretation of the Piano Quintet in F Minor, the crown jewel of this concert dedicated to Brahmsian brilliance!
