Generously supported by Madame Aline Foriel-Destezet

Founded in 2000 by Martin T:son Engstroem to “espouse educational values and inspire young musicians through their interaction with world-class artists, creating mutual benefits for both the old and young,” the Verbier Festival Orchestra provides an indispensable training ground for gifted young instrumentalists. Rising talents aged 18 to 28 come from all over the world to work with leading international conductors and soloists—like Janine Jansen, Denis Matsuev, Daniil Trifonov, Yuja Wang, Khatia Buniatishvili, Paavo Järvi, Evgeny Kissin, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Yefim Bronfman, Sir Antonio Pappano, Joyce DiDonato, Martha Argerich, and Renaud Capuçon—and to prepare and perform at concerts during the festival. Since 2018, the preeminent ensemble has been in the capable hands of Maestro Valery Gergiev.

The 2020 Virtual Verbier Festival is proud to devote a whole day to the VFO, which offers the tantalizing chance to see them bringing their incredible talents to masterworks of the symphonic repertoire, including excerpts from Beethoven's Fifth, Shoskakovich's Tenth, Mendelssohn's Third, and Mahler's Third, Fourth, and Fifth. The ensemble also shows their impeccable musicianship in moving symphonic poems and suites by Bartók (Bluebeard's Castle), Strauss (Till EulenspiegelDer Rosenkavalier, and Ein Heldenleben), and Stravinsky (The Rite of Spring and Petrushka). Don't miss this exceptional collection of orchestral favorites from the heart of the Swiss Alps!
