Program notes
At the Banlieues Bleues festival in 2021, an edition shaped by the absence of an audience, Felipe Cabrera unveils Medusa: an album combining music and dance, accompanied by Judith Sánchez Ruiz.
The concert opens in silence. Alone on stage, Judith Sánchez Ruiz sketches a series of slow, almost suspended movements, before Cabrera’s double bass gradually joins in. This first piece establishes a sensitive dialogue between the dancer and the musician, a duet in which each gesture is echoed in the strings’ vibrations. Joined by Lukmil Perez and Leonardo Montana, the dance transforms and responds to the group’s variations, while creating opportunities for improvised interactions. In this special edition of the festival, Felipe Cabrera reaffirms the power of jazz and performance to innovate even without an audience.
