Program notes
An international ambassador for the Hammond organ for over 40 years, Rhoda Scott performs a brand new composition at the Palais des Congrès in Le Mans, especially created for this evening tribute to Manu Dibango. The legendary “Barefoot Lady” will appear barefoot behind her Hammond B3, faithful to the instrument she discovered as a child in her father’s church.
Having collaborated with some of the biggest names in jazz and blues, such as Ray Charles, George Benson, Count Basie, and Ella Fitzgerald, she has composed a vibrant tribute to Manu Dibango for this concert, blending African heritage, jazz, soul, and groove. For one evening, Le Mans becomes the setting for a rare and meaningful exchange, where the organist honors her local artistic landscape and crafts a moment of deep connection with her audience. A unique, generous, and inspired creation—just like Rhoda Scott herself.
