Christof Loy is one of the most internationally sought-after opera and theatre directors of his generation. His meticulously crafted productions have earned him numerous awards. He has been named Director of the Year several times by Opernwelt magazine. In 2017 he was named Director of the year at the International Opera Awards, where he also won the 2016 award for "Best New Production" for Britten's Peter Grimes at the Theater an der Wien.

He has an intensive and long-standing collaboration with many of the world's leading opera houses: Theatre an der Wien (Peter Grimes, Maria Stuarda, Euryanthe, and Zazà), the Bavarian State Opera (Lucrezia Borgia, Roberto Devereux, and Nozze di Figaro), the Zurich Opera House (La Straniera, Alcina, I Capuleti e Montecchi, and Don Pasquale), the Salzburg Festival (Theodora, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Ariodante, and Così fan tutte), the Royal Opera Stockholm (La Fanciulla del West, Parsifal, Der Rosenkavalier, and Der Ferne Klang), Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Ariadne auf Naxos, Lulu, and Tristan und Isolde), De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam (ArabellaKhovanshchina, La Forza del Destino, and Tannhäuser), the Teatro Real Madrid (Capriccio and Rusalka) and many more.

Among his latest works are Così fan tutte at Salzburger Festspiele, Leoncavallo‘s Zazà at Theater an der Wien, Dvořák's Rusalka at Teatro Real MadridEugen Onegin (Tchaikovsky) in Oslo, Francesca da Rimini at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Luisa Miller (Verdi) at the Glyndebourne Festival, Salome (Strauss) at the Finnish National Opera Helsinki, Der Schatzgräber (Schreker) at Deutsche Oper Berlin an Il Trittico (Puccini) at Salzburger Festspiele.

Projects in the current season include Königskinder (Humperdinck) at National Dutch Opera, Amsterdam, Arabella (Strauss) at Teatro Real Madrid and Le Prophète (Meyerbeer) at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.
