Program notes

Get (re)acquainted with perhaps the most beloved ballet of all time, performed by perhaps the most revered of all ballet companies, and the same one that premiered it in 1877: Swan Lake by the Bolshoi Ballet, choreographed by the legendary Yuri Grigorovich to the timeless, rapturous score by Tchaikovsky!

The world-class dancers of the Bolshoi Ballet leap and twirl in the sumptuous costumes—and amid the eye-catching sets—of Simon Virsaladze, mythical figure of Soviet ballet, recreated for the occasion. The multi-award-winning and world-renowned Svetlana Zakharova steps elegantly into the leading role(s) of Odette and Odile, dazzling the audience throughout—not least during the storied sequence of 32 fouettés in the second act, one of the most virtuosic feats in all of ballet. For the soundtrack, the exquisite Bolshoi Orchestra brings out the poignant depths of Tchaikovsky's score, under the baton of maestro Pavel Sorokin.
