Program notes
"I’ve always wanted to open up hip-hop to other disciplines," says choreographer and stage manager Mourad Merzouki. "The idea behind this show was to make the border between two worlds even more blurred." Merzouki's staged version of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons — part of a long lineage of recreation and reinvention of this timeless work — comes to the stage of La Seine Musicale just outside Paris, starring acclaimed violinist and conductor Julien Chauvin alongside dancers from the Compagnie Käfig and musicians from Le Concert de la Loge. Their strikingly kinetic, emotive performance offers a groundbreaking and interdisciplinary interpretation of a Baroque masterpiece. The theatrical and musical setting of The Four Seasons blends with elements of hip-hop, breakdance, acrobatics, and cutting-edge stagecraft. Embark on a journey of rediscovery, where the power and expressive potential of instrumental music come to life through visual storytelling and dynamic choreography.
