Program notes

Get lost in the unique and striking vision of Christian Spuck, who brings one of classical music's most beloved song cycles to the ballet stage in Zurich! Schubert's haunting, atmospheric Winterreise, in an enigmatic arrangement for tenor and orchestra by Hans Zender, is sung by talented Swiss tenor Mauro Peter, whose vocal stylings are a perfect match for Spuck's stark and snowy tableau.

Although full of evocative imagery, Spuck's interpretation of the famous work is far from literal as he seeks to plunge spectators into a sort of trance. By turns torrid and tender, but always full of poetry, the dancers' movements—led by the excellent Giulia Tonelli—enchant from beginning to end of this modern-day masterpiece.

This is just one of many beautiful ballets available on medici.tv, the web's leading classical music streaming platform!
