Claudio Abbado conducts Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde and Symphony No. 10 — With Anne Sofie von Otter and Jonas Kaufmann

In 2011, the inimitable maestro Claudio Abbado returned to the helm of the Berliner Philharmoniker after nearly 10 years of absence to pay tribute to Gustav Mahler alongside superstars mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter (a Mahler specialist) and tenor Jonas Kaufmann. Long acclaimed for sensational interpretations of Mahler’s œuvre, Abbado and his fellow musicians commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer’s death on May 18, 1911 with a program featuring his unfinished 10th Symphony, and Das Lied von der Erde, “probably the most personal composition I ever created,” as Mahler himself put it.
