The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is back and better than ever on medici.tv!
Hear, hear: the American arts and culture scene is beginning to reawaken after a long and fitful slumber! Join us in New York for the first live concert by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in 2021—not from their usual home base, but outdoors amid the bucolic backdrop of Damrosch Park.
The stars of the CMS come together with, as always, a delightful and cannily chosen program: Wu Han and Kristin Lee get the celebration started with a monument of 20th-century American music: Gershwin's jazzy, sultry Three Preludes, originally written for piano solo but heard here in an enchanting transcription for violin and piano by the legendary Jascha Heifetz. Grammy-winning soprano Angel Blue (described by Plácido Domingo as "the next Leontyne Price") makes her entrance next, alongside pianist Bryan Wagorn in the world premiere of Bruce Adolphe's Water Songs. The evening closes with one of the chamber repertoire's most stirring and spirited masterpieces, Dvořák's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major, featuring a top-notch lineup: violinists Kristtin Lee and Danbi Um, pianist Wu Han, violist Paul Neubauer and cellist David Finckel.
