Program notes

With her meteoric rise driven by victories at numerous singing competitions, Annette Dasch has established herself as one of the most important singers on today’s international scene. In this concert recorded in 2011, the German soprano responds to "a crucial question" with an extraordinary program of primarily French and German music: lieder and opera arias by Schubert, Berlioz, and Gounod centered on the character of Gretchen from Goethe's Faust, three Romances by Verdi, and an aria from Robert Schumann’s opera Genoveva. Under the baton of Marc Piollet, Münchner Rundfunkorchester accompanies the soprano as well as performing selections for orchestra drawn from the incidental music Schubert composed for Rosamunde.
