Program notes

Dive into 17th-century Spain with Nuria Rial and Fahmi Alqhai, who celebrate Spanish music influenced by the Italian style in a program revolving dedicated to the depiction of love.

A true crossroads of musical cultures, this program features excerpts from works by Francisco Guerau, Sebastien Duron, and José de Nebra, Spanish composers influenced by the Italian music in the 18th century. Their compositions are defined by the way they blend Spanish forms and rhythms characteristic of traditional zarzuela with elements imported from Italy, such as recitativo secco, to create a surprising combination.
