A true crossroads of musical cultures, this program features excerpts from works by Francisco Guerau, Sebastián Durón, and José de Nebra—Spanish composers influenced by the Italian music in the early 18th century. Their compositions are defined by the way they blend Spanish forms and rhythms characteristic of traditional zarzuela with elements imported from Italy, such as recitativo secco, to create a surprising combination.
