Program notes
Star tenor Benjamin Bernheim and pianist Florence Boissolle present a recital of French songs and opera arias at the Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux.
Concert highlights include Duparc's entrancing L'Invitation au voyage, Gounod's haunting L'Absent, and Fauré's dramatic Au cimetière and Larmes. The program's second half is dedicated to a musical journey through the greatest masterpieces of the French operatic repertoire, performing arias from Manon, Werther, Roméo et Juliette, Carmen, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, among others.
With a voice that is "flawless and pure, ranging from delicate pianissimo to heroic fortissimo" (Opera News), Benjamin Bernheim has performed on stages the world over, bringing to life characters as diverse as Rodolfo in La Bohème, Lenski in Eugene Onegin, Alfredo Germont in La Traviata, Nemorino in L'Elisir d'amore, and Faust in the eponymous opera.
