In this final recording in the set, the pair perform the Sonata No. 3 in D minor, dedicated to Brahms's friend, the celebrated pianist and conductor Hans von Bülow. More abstract and dramatic than the two earlier sonatas, the sonata stands out for its intense energy and unusual key. It opens with a decidedly lyrical Allegro and culminates in a stormy and passionate Presto Agitato.
