Program notes

Watch young virtuoso Alexander Malofeev—who made waves with his stellar solo recital in week one—perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with conductor Charles Dutoit leading the Verbier Festival Orchestra, live from the Salle des Combins!

For this closing concert of the Verbier Festival’s 29th edition, the program also includes Kodály’s magnificent orchestral suite Háry János, adapted from the opera of the same name—a marvellous kaleidoscope of timbres and colors—as well as Stravinsky’s legendary Rite of Spring, a unique masterpiece featuring frenzied rhythms, deliciously disquieting harmonies, and themes shrouded in mystery.
