Program notes

Christmas in the Erzgebirge region is one of Saxony’s most treasured traditions. Its unique celebrations include numerous customs focusing on music.

The Renaissance town of Marienberg is at the very heart of the historic Erzgebirge region. In this film, it becomes the setting for a concert of classical and seasonal works performed by Germany’s prestigious Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie. This exquisite ensemble of wind instruments is joined by Germany’s leading youth choir the Rundfunk-Jugendchor Wernigerode, as well as Ensemble Sonora, and the prominent soprano Ruth Ziesak. The program features works by Handel, Schumann, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and many others!
