Sublime soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci and superstar clarinetist Martin Fröst join maestro Claudio Vandelli and the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in a stunning symphonic concert, live from the Salle des Combins at the 2022 Verbier Festival!
The concert kicks off with Poulenc's La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice), interpreted with brio by the Italian soprano, who is marvelously at home in the role after a resoundingly successful run at Paris's Opéra Comique in 2013. This "concerto for soprano and orchestra" is an intense and powerfully lyrical monodrama whose libretto—by none other than Jean Cocteau—recounts the heart-rending tale of a woman abandoned by her lover. Poulenc's score deepens the story's exploration of anguish, isolation, and fear, marked by soaring, poetic vocal runs. To conclude the evening, Fröst proposes his own "Nomadic Dances," a pastiche for clarinet and orchestra, with the text written by the artist Jesper Waldersten, that takes the audience on a symphonic journey from the French Baroque period to contemporary Sweden…
