Program notes

In the Moscow Conservatory’s 2018 inaugural “Svetlanov - Universe!” Festival, 13 concerts brought the city alive with classical music and honored the incredible legacy of its internationally celebrated alumnus, the conductor-composer Evgeny Svetlanov. In the second concert of the series, Turina’s Bullfighter's Prayer—inspired by the vision of a bullfighter praying in the chapel next to the arena—and Bizet's Symphony in C Major—music that inspired the ballet The Crystal Palace—are followed by the harpist Oksana Sidiaguina performing Svetlanov's Russian Variations for harp and string orchestra.
