Program notes

Meet formidable pianist Leif Ove Andsnes at the fifth edition of the Rosendal Chamber Music Festival, which focused on Beethoven's repertoire. The event, which was attended by smaller audience in 2020, reveals excellent artists and composers each year, from various backgrounds through dazzling concerts. Saxophonist Marius Neset shares his own composition: Who We Are, inspired by the exalting Symphony No. 7. By way of introduction, Leif Ove Andsnes sublimely interprets Beethoven's “Pathétique” Symphony, before giving way to soprano Christiane Karg, who presents seven traditional songs by the composer alongside talented musicians, in seven different languages. The last work in the program: Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen (“I have detached myself from the world”) by Gustav Mahler, delivers a message of hope to close the festival on a note of optimism.
