Program notes
Celebrated in its time as the work of "a composer [who] finds himself at the pinnacle of his career" (Eduard Hanslick, Neue Freie Presse, 1884), Dvořák's Trio in F minor for Piano, Violin, and Cello, Op. 65 stands out in the composer's catalog for its expansive structure and for its dark and reflective character that recalls the art of his mentor Johannes Brahms. One of his more elaborate chamber works, the Trio gets a stellar performance here in the very capable hands of Gilbert Kalish, Benjamin Beilman, and Julie Albers, members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
