Evgeny Kissin — Pianist

Program notes

Christopher Nupen films the Russian piano star Evgeny Kissin, a true musical phenomenon! On August 10, 1997, Kissin became the first musician in the hundred-year history of the London Proms to be invited to perform a solo recital. Taking place on a blazing-hot Sunday afternoon in August, Kissin's concert attracted a record-breaking audience, the largest number of listeners ever for a BBC Proms event!

To round off the recital, Kissin offered his rapt listeners a series of encores—the longest in the history of the Proms' 103-year history in Royal Albert Hall! In this film the encores are included in their entirety: Kissin performs works by Liszt, Beethoven, Schubert, and Chopin, some of his favorite composers.
