Program notes

Every year, the extraordinary Berliner Philharmoniker puts on a winter gala like only they can, inviting some of the most coveted names in the business to help them ring in the new year at the Berliner Philharmonie. For the 2015 edition, the charismatic Sir Simon Rattle took the helm of the legendary ensemble, joined by virtuoso violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter!

These exceptional artists put together a program that gives pride of place to beloved French repertoire of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, featuring Saint-Saëns's irresistible Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Ravel's Tzigane, and Poulenc's suite for the ballet Les Biches—as well as works by Chabrier and Massenet, all finished off with a devilish encore…
