Program notes
Currently associated composer at the Orchestre national de Lyon and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra as well as choir director of the Orchestra and Choir of the Universities of Paris (OCUP), Guillaume Connesson has been celebrated as one of “the most exciting composers of his generation” by luminaries like Jean-François Zygel. His genre-bending compositions cannot be easily categorized, drawing inspiration from musical figures as diverse as Couperin, Steve Reich, Carl Orff, and Philip Glass by way of Richard Strauss, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Lutosławski, and Dutilleux.
This program offers a compilation of the composer’s creations performed by brilliant musicians like Florent Héau, Jérôme Pernoo, Jérôme Ducros, Sergey Malov, and Lise Berthaud. Interviews with musicians, audience members, and the composer himself enrich this recording that is already remarkable because of its unique filmmaking techniques, offering a fascinating look at Connesson's music that “unfolds like a dream” (La Terrasse).
