Program notes

Join Hans Graf and piano sensation Behzod Abduraimov alongside the world-renowned Singapore Symphony Orchestra for a whirlwind program of vivid, operatic storytelling, cinematic drama, and breathtaking Rachmaninovian intensity. The concert begins with Ethel Smyth’s On the Cliffs of Cornwall, the Prelude to Act II of her opera The Wreckers, which depicts a tale of passion, conflict, and tragedy against the stirring backdrop of the Cornish coastline. For the main event, Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov indulges us with a captivating rendition of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, an audience favorite of the piano repertoire that showcases both Abduraimov’s acute sensitivity and dazzling virtuosity at the keyboard. To round out this majestic program, Hans Graf is joined by the Singapore Symphony Chorus and Youth Choir in Ravel’s “vast musical fresco” Daphnis et Chloé. Bask in its masterful orchestral splendor and colorful instrumentation to celebrate 150 years since the birth of the French composer.
