Program notes
In this highly anticipated symphonic concert from the 2025 InClassica International Music Festival, acclaimed violinist Giuseppe Gibboni joins forces with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under the masterful baton of Conrad van Alphen. The program opens with the Overture to Verdi’s Nabucco, an operatic masterpiece that Verdi regarded as the work "with which my artistic career really begins." Gibboni then takes center stage to lead the world premiere of Alexey Shor’s Violin Concerto No. 7, a composition that seamlessly blends contemporary and traditional musical elements, while showcasing the composer’s evocative writing style. Franz Schubert’s last major orchestral work, Symphony No. 9 in C Major, concludes the performance. Subtitled "The Great," the symphony is considered one of his most innovative compositions and inspired Robert Schumann, who praised its "charming variety of vital feeling."
