Program notes

Sit back and enjoy the acclaimed Bamberg Symphony with their music director Jakub Hrůša in this live broadcast from the beautiful Bamberg Konzerthalle! They are joined once again by renowned violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, who helps them begin the program with Schumann's only Violin Concerto—first performed in 1937, 81 years after the composer's death. The superb soloist, who knows the work well, plays the violin part to perfection. The orchestra continues with Bruckner's rich and moving Ninth Symphony, the great master's final work in the genre, suffused with solemnity.
