Program notes
NYO2 makes its mark on the international scene with maestro Joseph Young! This program for talented young musicians, founded in 2016 by the Weill Music Institute at the legendary Carnegie Hall, welcomes 14- to 17-year-old artists from underrepresented groups to join a broader musical community and participate in exciting concerts with their peer ensemble, the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. This year, for the first time, NYO2 goes abroad—beginning here at the Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic! On the program: Three Dance Episodes from On the Town by Leonard Bernstein—origin of the famous “New York, New York”—and excerpts from Prokofiev’s gorgeous Romeo and Juliet.
