Program notes

The long-awaited Carnegie Hall debut of meteoric talent Klaus Mäkelä has arrived, and you can catch every note of his superb Stravinsky double feature on medici.tv! For the grand occasion, Mäkelä and his impeccable Orchestre de Paris bring out the big guns, returning to the two Stravinsky masterpieces on their 2023 release that Gramophone called "a thing of seductive beauty": a blazing-hot Firebird, the piece that made the young Stravinsky's name, and the deliciously terrifying Rite of Spring, which has lost none of its ability to shock and delight since its notorious premiere in the Orchestre de Paris's hometown… A fittingly bold program for one of today's boldest young stars, certain to be one of the brightest highlights of the 2024 season.
