Program notes

Opening concert of the 2011-12 season of the Orchestre national de Lyon

This concert is the first opening of the season of the Orchestre national de Lyon with Leonard Slatkin as its music director. The American conductor, who has the same fonctions in Detroit, has given a few concerts in Lyon yet, notably in January 2011 when he conducted Brahms' First Symphony (the event was broadcasted live on medici.tv).

This time, Leonard Slatkin chose a 100% French programme, featuring Ravel's Spanish Rhapsody and Concerto in G, for which he is joined by the pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. Those are followed by a rendition of the most popular work produced by the French Romanticism: Berlioz Symphonie fantastique.

Sound: France musique. Artistic director: Raffi Kevorkian; sound engineer: Pierre Bornard; assisted by Chantal Nouvelot and Adrien Gazza.
