Program notes

“I enjoy returning to the baroque because I feel at home”, explained Magdalena Kožená. The mezzo-soprano is in her element in this concert dedicated to the so-called “father of opera”, Monteverdi. The acclaimed singer joins La Cetra Barockorchester Basel under the direction of Johannes Keller, who perform several instrumental works by the composer’s contemporaries, including Marco Uccellini, Tarquinio Merula, Dario Castello, and Biagio Marini.
