Program notes

A regular guest of the Verbier Festival, the virtuoso pianist Martha Argerich takes the stage at Verbier once more in a collaboration with legendary violinist Ivry Gitlis and rising stars of the next generation!

The evening began with two duos, one with each of the Capuçon brothers: first Beethoven’s Sonata No. 8 for Violin and Piano, followed by Schumann’s Fantasiestücke. Then Argerich was joined by virtuoso violinist Ivry Gitlis and young star pianists Khatia Buniatishvili and Yuja Wang, and together they performed Von Paradis’ Sicilienne, Tchaikovsky’s Melody for Violin and Piano, and Kreisler’s Schön Rosmarin and Liebesleid. The evening culminated with Argerich performing Ravel’s La Valse in a transcription for two pianos with fellow Argentinian, dear friend, and frequent musical partner, Nelson Goerner.
