Program notes

The 2021 Martha Argerich Festival continues on medici.tv with another highlight reel showcasing the very best of this prestigious event. Surrounded by stars of the classical stage, the Argentine virtuoso interprets legendary sonatas, starting with the sublime Sonata for Piano Four Hands in C Major by Mozart, which sees Argerich share the bench with the wonderful Maria João Pires. Nelson Goerner, Alexej Gerassimez, and Lukas Böhm then make their entrance for a stunning rendition of Bartók’s innovative Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion. Finally, Martha Argerich concludes the concert alongside cellist extraordinaire Mischa Maisky, with Shostakovich’s poignant Cello Sonata in D Minor.
