Mieczyslaw Horszowski — Pianist

Program notes

In 1989, legendary pianist Mieczyslaw Horszowski — at the age of 97! — regaled audiences with this exceptional recital dedicated to the works of Bach and Chopin. Near the end of a career spanning more than eight decades (though he would continue performing until 1991), Horszowski brings exquisite sensitivity and hard-won profundity to this set of piano masterpieces that includes the ethereal Fantaisie-Impromptu, romantic Nocturnes, and the E-minor English Suite. From the rigor and timeless beauty of Bach's compositions to the passion and virtuosity of Chopin's melodies, this concert is as much a demonstration of technical prowess as it is of eternal love and deep dedication to the art of piano interpretation. This priceless recording gives us a front-row seat to the kind of musical moment that only comes around a few times in a generation!
