Program notes
A program of masterpieces for a masterful conductor! Soloists join the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra under the acclaimed Marc Minkowski's baton for Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, Bach's Cantata Ich habe genug—one of his most beloved, originally composed for Candlemass—and Fauré’s magnificent Requiem in D Minor Op. 48, a jewel of the sacred repertoire. For this performance, an exceptional group of soloists takes the stage: virtuoso violinist Vilde Frang, soprano Ying Fang, baritone Peter Mattei, and the RIAS Kammerchor, the famed German choir of elite professional singers.
"Of my Requiem it has been said that the work does not express the terror of death, someone even called it a lullaby of death. But I feel death in this way: like a happy deliverance, an aspiration for happiness in the hereafter, rather than a painful journey.”— Gabriel Fauré on his Requiem Mass, composed between 1887 and 1900.
