Program notes

The great pianist Monty Alexander and his band take the Baloise Session by storm with an electrifying concert of music that defies categorization… from jazz to reggae, delta blues to calypso, don’t miss this soulful night of Caribbean flair!

Pianist Monty Alexander grew up in Jamaica and by age seventeen had moved to the US and was playing jazz with the greats. Frank Sinatra memorably remarked himself that “Monty is music dynamite!” Like every great artist, his ever-shifting interests and inspirations have led him to stretch his musical style, incorporating diverse musical traditions into one irresistible rhythmic and melodic whole. Filmed live in Basel (CH) in November 2014, this concert features just such a delectable musical melange that is sure to make you want to get up and dance along!
