Program notes
Live from the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, virtuosos Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Fazil Say perform a program guaranteed to captivate and delight! They begin the evening with Schubert's harmonically adventurous Sonatina for Violin and Piano in A Minor before moving on to Brahms's Violin Sonata No. 3, a monument of the Romantic repertoire composed by an artist at the height of his powers. Finally, Janáček's only extant Violin Sonata—his earlier incomplete attempts having been lost to history—concludes the concert on a meditative note. Painful, lively, full of irony and shifting extremes, the Czech master's work is a maelstrom of emotions, magnificent and moving.
