Program notes

Powerhouse Philippe Jaroussky is back with the Ensemble Artaserse for a brilliant Baroque evening at Dortmund's Konzerthaus! On the program, guaranteed to delight, are two of the celebrated countertenor's favorite composers: Handel, master of the 18th-century opera, and Vivaldi, whose gorgeous vocal compositions elevated him to a similarly exalted status. The Ensemble Artaserse's evident passion for their repertoire is never short of stunning, leaving audiences deeply moved by plaintive airs from Parnasso in festa and charmed by the lyrical beauty of L'Olimpiade. Among the vocal showpieces, the timeless melodies of Handel's Concerti Grossi show off the musicians' virtuosic skill and refinement.
